Go, due to this fact and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them within the title of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, educating them to observe all that I’ve commanded you.  Matthew 28:19-20

Let Us Lift Up Our Hearts

Let us elevate up our hearts and fingers to God in heaven.  Lamentations three:41

Good morning Prayer Team!

One of my favourite traces of the Liturgy is simply after the Creed, when the priest says “Let us lift up our hearts,” and raises his fingers over his head.  While there was some debate whether or not the folks also needs to elevate up their fingers at this second (I’m of the assumption that they need to and have taught my congregation so), we’re all at the least accustomed to this gesture made by the priest.  It is a reminder to give up.

We all know from the flicks, that when the unhealthy guys are caught, they’re informed to “come out with your hands up.”  That is the signal for give up.  They throw down their weapons and increase their fingers.  This gesture by the priest ought to preserve entrance and heart in our minds that we want to give up.

There are heaps of individuals who imagine that if we’re failing at one thing, that we have now to roll up our sleeves and work more durable.  That could be true for algebra.  However, it’s not solely arduous work that will get us into the Kingdom of Heaven.  It’s give up.

Sadly, there are heaps of folks in our church buildings that assume that if we bake sufficient cookies, or donate sufficient cash or be half of sufficient boards, or work at sufficient fundraisers that they may get to the Kingdom this manner.  So, once they really feel like their religion is flailing, they simply roll up their sleeves to do some extra work.

I’ve tried working arduous.  That doesn’t clear up each drawback.  It definitely doesn’t shoo away each temptation.  Work doesn’t ease all doubts both.  At some level in each life, we are going to all stand at a spot the place we don’t know what to do.  We’ll be in some unspecified time in the future of confusion, frustration, doubt or disappointment.  This is probably going to occur many instances in life truly.  In the life of a trustworthy Christian, it’s at these moments particularly that we must always not to throw up our fingers in despair, or throw them down into extra work, or throw them in our pockets and sit idly ready for change.  These are the moments once we are supposed to increase them in give up to God’s will for us in that second.

Let’s return to this second of give up on the Divine Liturgy.  The priest says “Let us elevate up our hearts.”  And the folks reply “We elevate them up to the Lord.”  In the dialogue of the flicks, the place the sheriff says “Come out with your hands up,” if the unhealthy guys made a verbal response, it might be “Ugh! We give up.”  This just isn’t the dialogue of the Divine Liturgy.  When the priest says “Let us elevate up our hearts,” the response is a joyous “We elevate them up to the Lord.”  This means “We surrender them to the Lord.”  It additionally means “We trust the Lord as we lift up our hearts to Him.”  It implies that we let go of our egos and our agendas and we place them within the hand of the Lord.

As I sit penning this morning, as I’m about to start my day, as I believe of the issues I’ve to do at the moment, I don’t know what number of of them will end up.  Will I insist by myself method, or will I give up my day to the Lord and let Him direct it.  In I Corinthians 13:four, St. Paul writes “Love is patient and kind.”  If God is love, and love is affected person and sort, then in surrendering my day to God, I give up additionally impatience and unkindness, for this stuff don’t mirror God’s love.  Surrendering the day doesn’t imply sitting and doing nothing, or sitting and ready for God to make one thing occur.  It means going by means of the day in a Godly method, surrendering our needs for ungodly issues to habits that mirror God’s love and mercies.  To give up one’s life to God doesn’t imply we don’t get to make decisions, however that God and love leads these decisions.

They elevate up their voices, they sing for pleasure; over the majesty of the Lord they shout from the west.  Therefore within the east give glory to the Lord; within the coastlands of the ocean, to the title of the Lord, the God of Israel.  From the ends of the earth we hear songs of reward, of glory to the Righteous One.  Isaiah 24:14-16

Let us elevate up our fingers, our hearts and ourselves to God at the moment by surrendering ungodliness and letting God and His love and mercies lead and information our steps!
