Sexual morality is without doubt one of the most controversial and most generally mentioned points in our society in the present day. Churches should not immune from associated controversies. Within the United Methodist Church, the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) has urged the denomination to stray from biblical teachings on marriage. The unofficial group of United Methodists now generally known as RMN emerged in 1982 to advocate for the homosexual and lesbian group. It additionallylaunched a decades-long, unsuccessful marketing campaign to get world United Methodism to desert biblical instructing and formally enable same-sex union ceremonies and the ordination of overtly homosexually energetic clergy. However, RMN’s efforts have taken a toll on their affiliated congregations.
RMN’s said mission speaks of “resist[ing] evil, injustice, and oppression as we search justice for folks of all sexual orientations and gender identities.” It believes that each one sexual orientations are a present from God and fights to carry church buildings to acknowledge this and rejoice associated non-traditional sexual practices, together with same-sex unions, and sex-reassignment surgical procedures. Over the years, tons of of U.S. United Methodist congregations (out of the denomination’s tens of hundreds of congregations all over the world) have declared themselves to be “Reconciling Congregations” formally supporting RMN.
I’ve usually heard that after a United Methodist congregation joins RMN, it takes a toll on the congregation. To show this concept, I’ve compiled knowledge for many United Methodist congregations that joined RMN between 2008 and 2014. The denomination’s official on-line knowledge listing, www.UMdata.org, doesn’t embody key info earlier than 2007 or after 2016.
