On 25 March 2018, Sunday, a fire broke out in the Winter Cherry shopping centre, claiming quite a few victims. Sixty-four people, principally kids, have died. March 28 was declared nationwide day of mourning in Russia.

It is with a heavy coronary heart that we realized of the devastating information regarding the fire in the Winter Cherry shopping centre, which took the lives of so many people – each kids and adults. We are at a loss for phrases witnessing the unfathomable tragedy which the mass media has conveyed, and we stay in prayerful contemplation for the victims and their relations. As we journey in direction of Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we grieve as our Lord did for the death of His good pal, Lazarus, whereas holding inside us the assurance of the Resurrection and the promise of the life to return.
In this second of sorrow and mourning, we want to personally convey our heartfelt condolences, in addition to the collective sympathies and prayers of our Ecumenical Patriarchate. May the Lord of life and death grant everlasting relaxation to all those that tragically misplaced their lives, and should He grant peace and luxury to these whose hearts have been damaged and injured by today’ occasions. We will proceed to face in a spirit of solidarity with you and people struggling.
