ENGAGED: The Call to Be Disciples

Go, due to this fact and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the identify of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, instructing them to look at all that I have commanded you.  Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus stated to her, “I AM the Resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”  John 11: 25-26

Good morning Prayer Team!

Today’s “I AM” might be the most quoted of the I AM statements of Jesus.  It is commonly quoted at funerals.  A preferred Christian music bears the similar title and quotes these verses.

These verses happen throughout the account of Jesus elevating Lazarus from the lifeless, informed in John 11.  Lazarus, and his sisters Mary and Martha, have been pals of Jesus.  He would typically cease of their dwelling on His journeys to Jerusalem.

One of the indicators of that the Messiah has come was going to be that the lifeless would rise.  Isaiah 26:19 reads “Thy lifeless shall reside, their our bodies shall rise.”  When Jesus heard that Lazarus was ailing, He determined to not go to him instantly.  One of the issues that Jesus taught when He gave sight to the blind man in John 9, was that the works of God could be manifest in troublesome instances.  Jesus really allowed Lazarus to die.  He selected Lazarus to obtain the miracle of being raised to life, to not showcase His energy, however to indicate the energy that Jesus has to liven up those that have died.  He has the energy not solely to offer life anew in a bodily manner, as He did for Lazarus, however He has the energy to offer new life in the kingdom of heaven.

When Jesus arrived at the dwelling of Lazarus, He was met by Martha, who was understandably upset.  She stated “Lord, when you had been right here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”(John 11:21) Yet in the very subsequent sentence, she acknowledged her religion in Him, saying “And even now I know that no matter you ask from God, God will give You.”  (11:22)  Continuing on, “Jesus said to her, ‘You brother will rise again.’  Martha said to Him ‘I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’” (11:23-24)  The Jews, no less than a few of them, believed in an idea of “resurrection.”

Then Jesus stated to her, “I AM the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”  I imagine in some methods, we have to redefine some phrases.  We say in our tradition that “life” is the time period we’re on the earth.  “Death” is the finish of life.  “Death” is seen as the final evil, the finish of the factor we love.

In Christian phrases, “death” is the absence of God.  And it IS the worst potential factor that may occur to us.  Life is being in the presence of God.  I contemplate our time on this earth a time of “preparation.”  And the day that our time on earth ends, I contemplate that “passing”.  After we “pass,” we go to God for judgment, and then we’re judged worthy of “life” which is heaven, or of “death” which is hell.  All of our souls will proceed to eternity—it’s only a query of the place they are going to go—to life or to demise.  Now, whereas getting ready for eternity, we are able to expertise “life” in Christ whereas on earth.  This occurs by way of prayer, worship, Communion, charity, love, and so forth.  We apply “life” with God on earth in an effort to put together for “life” with Him in heaven.  If we’ve practiced nicely, we can be able to go to heaven.  If we’ve not, we won’t be prepared.

This is what Jesus means when He says “He who believes in Me, although he die, but shall he reside.”  If we imagine in Christ, although we “die” in the sense of “passing away” we’ll proceed to reside with Him for eternity.  “Whoever lives and believes in Me shall by no means die.”  This signifies that whoever lives and believes in God won’t ever discover themselves separated from God—they are going to “live” with Him in heaven.

Jesus reveals Himself as the Resurrection and the Life, as the Savior by which everlasting life turns into potential.  He asks Martha “Do you imagine this?”  (11:26)  Martha solutions“Yes, Lord; I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, He who is coming into the world.” (11:27)  This trade is certainly one of the most profound in the Bible.  Ultimately, we’re working in direction of the Resurrection, our personal Resurrection.  The issues we’ve mentioned right here, which might be written in John 11, are very troublesome to understand.  This is the place religion is available in.  Faith is believing in one thing we can not totally see or totally comprehend.  The query that Jesus asks Martha is the most profound query we’ve to reply in our life.  Her reply is the right one.  It takes a very long time to construct a robust religion.  That’s why we should always take steps every day by way of prayer, scripture studying, and Godly residing.

Lord, thank You for the present of hope in the Resurrection to eternal life.  Help me to grasp what this implies.  Help me to think about it.  Help me to develop in religion every day.  May I spend my life getting ready for everlasting life, and I pray that You will choose me worthy someday of Your heavenly kingdom.  Amen.

Do you imagine?  What steps will you’re taking right this moment to develop in your religion?
