Sunday of Orthodoxy

You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these.” And he mentioned to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”  John 1: 43-51 (Gospel from the First Sunday of Lent)

 

Good morning Prayer Team!

In John 1: 35-39, we hear of the name of the first Disciples:

The subsequent day, once more John was standing with two of his disciples; and he checked out Jesus as he walked, and mentioned, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”  The two disciples heard him say this, and they adopted Jesus.  Jesus turned, and noticed them following, and mentioned to them “What do you seek?”  And they mentioned to Him, “Rabbi” (which implies Teacher), “where are You staying?”  He mentioned to them, “Come and see.”  They got here and noticed the place He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day.”

Nathanael answered in the manner many react to the name of Christ, with cynicism. When advised by Philip “We have found Him of Whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph,” (1:45) Nathanael requested “Can something good come out of Nazareth.” (1:46) Philip was not deterred by Nathanael’s cynicism.  Rather, with confidence, Philip mentioned to Nathanael “come and see.” (1:46) And after seeing, Nathanael mentioned “Rabbi, You are the Son of God!  You are the King of Israel!” (1:49)  This wouldn’t have occurred with out the name of Philip.  Even although religion is finally a private alternative, the encouragement of others performs a vital position in individuals coming to the religion.

Below this reflection is the Synodikon, which shall be learn in all Orthodox Churches on the Sunday of Orthodoxy.  It is both an announcement of conviction or hypocrisy.  If we’re convicted in our religion, and prepared to stay it and share it, it actually is a religion that may change the world.  If we’re not prepared to stay it and share it, our “faith” is restricted to icons on partitions and phrases on paper.  Can a small group change the world?  Well, Christ and His disciples did.  And even when we will’t change the complete world, as they did, every of us is able to considerably affecting our particular person corners of it. 

As the prophets beheld, as the apostles have taught, as the Church has acquired, as the academics have declared, as the world has agreed, as grace has proven forth, as reality has been revealed, as falsehood has been dispelled, as knowledge has turn into manifest, as Christ awarded; Thus we declare; thus we affirm; thus we proclaim Christ our true God, and honor His saints in phrases, writings, ideas, sacrifices, church buildings and holy icons; on the one hand worshipping and reverencing Christ as God and Lord, and on the different, honoring the saints as true servants of the similar Lord of all, and providing them correct veneration. 

This is the religion of the apostles.  This is the religion of the fathers.  This is the religion of the Orthodox.  This is the religion on which the world is established.

Therefore with fraternal and filial love we reward the heralds of the religion, those that with glory and honor have struggled for the religion, and we are saying: to the champions of Orthodoxy, trustworthy emperors, most-holy patriarchs, hierarchs, academics, martyrs and confessors:  May your reminiscence be everlasting!

Let us beseech God that we could also be instructed and strengthened by the trials and struggles of those saints, which they endured for the religion even unto loss of life, and by their teachings, entreating that we might to the finish imitate their Godly life.  May we be deemed worthy of acquiring our requests by the mercy and grace of the Great and First Hierarch, Christ our God, by the intercession of our wonderful Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, the divine angels and all the Saints.  Amen.

Come and see!  Come and BE!  Invite others to do the similar!  And do your half to current a church that may change the world!
